As many as 70 buses are parked outside the Swargate depot at night as there is a lack of space within the depot premises. The same number of buses from Nathwadi are parked at corporation at nights while around 40 are parked outside the Nathwadi depot.
"We are planning to shift 250 Tata buses to Nigdi, Bhosari and Pimpri. This will reduce parking woes as there is a lot of spare space in the PCMC depots for parking " said joint managing director Aziz Karche. The company has faced a spate of thefts when the buses are parked outside the depots, despite the presence of security personnel at the depots. "At least once in every three months, the security personnel catch thieves stealing parts from the buses parked outside the depots," said Deepak Pardeshi, PRO, PMPML. The shifting of some buses from the city to PCMC limits is expected to reduce this kind of thieving.
"It should primarily also help with the maintainence of the inventory as the spare parts become easy to track. If the depot has buses from a single company, servicing is less of a hassle," said Karche. This move is expected to be affected soon.
