Paying tribute to the literary prominence of an omniscient poet and visionary sage Vidyapati who was adorned by five different kingdoms as their Raj Pandit during the 14th century, the play has been scripted by Usha Kiran Khan and directed by Sanjay Upadhayay.

Relying on narrative sequences employing renowned poets Nagarajun and Raj Kamal, director attempts to bring out best of poetic creations of the legendary poet Vidyapati.

“The spirit of Vidyapati’s poetry is romanticism involving a rare sense of delight in devotion,” says the director. The story focuses on a part of the life of Vidyapati and his disciple Queen Lakhima. The poet leads his disciple into hiding, due to a war in the kingdom. They travel all day and night in search of a hideout, so that the queen can be protected from the crisis. Meanwhile, Vidyapati is also on the quest to search his favourite disciple -Ugna, who has left him. In between, contemporary poets give their views on the great classical poet and the story goes on untill Vidyapati fails to save the Queen who dies from a disease.
