Allahabad After being pulled up by the Allahabad High Court, the police arrested Subash Chandra Sharma, alias Deepu, accused in the abduction of one Shamshad Khan.

The investigation was making little headway as one of the accused was Mangal Pal, brother of BSP legislator Puja Pal.

Failing to get justice from the police, Shamshad’s father Bande Ali Khan had filed a writ petition in the court on July 15, 2008.

In its order on February 9, the court directed the Senior Superintendent of Police to take effective measures for recovering the youth, arrest all the culprits and submit a compliance report on March 20, the next date of hearing.

The police told the court that they had carried out regular raids at the possible whereabouts of the accused and will soon arrest them. But the recovery of the youth depended on the post arrest investigation, said Dhoomanganj Station Officer SK Singh.

The Inspector, Civil Lines, RK Singh said Subash, a resident of Khulabad, was arrested near the Allahabad Municipal Corporation while on his way to Civil Lines.

Shamshad was allegedly abducted from his Dhoomanganj home by some goons including Mangal Pal last year on May 28.

His brother Almas and mother Anwari Begum had met Chief Minister Mayawati and Director General of Police Vikram Singh on whose order, an FIR was lodged with the Hajratganj police station, Lucknow on June 16. The case was then transferred to Allahabad.
