NOIDA Delhi Police’s Crime Branch on Wednesday claimed to have arrested eight members of the Noida-based Amit Gurjjar gang, who were allegedly involved in the abduction and suspected rape of a Delhi University student on January 4. The Crime Branch had earlier arrested four members of the same gang from Delhi on January 12.

The police arrested the men from an under-construction building near G Block of Sector 63. According to Ashok Tripathi, SP (City), the local intelligence unit had provided information on the gang’s presence in the area. “On a tip-off, the police of Sector-39 and Sector-58, with assistance of the Crime Branch, arrested the rest of the gang members,” added Tripathi.

Naveen Arora, Senior Superintendent of Police, Gautam Budh Nagar, said the student, who was abducted from the Noida Sector 55 market by a few men, was allegedly raped and later abandoned near Loni, Ghaziabad. Though the student denied rape and claimed she was molested, the SSP said three of the arrested criminals have confessed to having raped her. “Three arrested gang members have admitted to having raped the girl before abandoning her near Loni,” added the SSP.

According to the police, the gang was active in crimes related to kidnapping, abduction and carjacking in Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar and Delhi.
