Lucknow The curtain raiser ceremony and logo launched of the 57th All India Police Athletic Meet-2008 was organised at Radio Headquarters, Mahanagar, Lucknow. The logo was inaugurated by DGP (UP) Vikram Singh. The athletic meet will be held at the Athletics Stadium of 35th Battalion PAC, Mahanagar, Lucknow from February 10 to 14. About 30 teams from different state police as well as the central police organisations are expected to take part in the championships. In the men's section 23 and in the women's section 19 events will be organised.

Addressing mediapersons, Vikram Singh said that it was a matter of pride that the prestigious championship has been allotted to Uttar Pradesh Police (UPP) by the All India Police Control Board, New Delhi. "Prior to this UP Police was given a chance to host the championship four times--- in 1952, 1968, 1979 and 1993. We have formed various committees and sub-committees to ensure the smooth conduction of the meet," he added.

Organising secretary of the tournament Rajeev Krishna informed that several international and national level athletes will be taking part in the meet. About 80 officials of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) and Uttar Pradesh Athletics Association (UPAA) will be present during the meet so that any record created here gets AFI recognition as well.

The tournament will be inaugurated by UP Chief Minister Mayawati at 3.30 pm on February 10.
