Pune Only those who are fearless can be part of mission mrityunjay. Students must not be lazy and have blind faith. Only then we can get rid of society’s ills like crime and terrorism,” Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh while addressing a jam-packed auditorium on the occasion of the meeting of Mission Mrityunjay Club at Acharya Atre auditorium on Friday morning. Students and teachers from various institutes across Pimpri-Chinchwad attended the event.

Singh said that Pune is home to Ganesha. But we cannot be assured that we will be safe in our city only by praying at temples and mosques. We should keep our eyes and ears active. Only then can we prevent terrorist attacks. Students must be alert and inform the police immediately if they notice anything unusual in the colony where they reside, school or college. Sometimes, a few seconds’ difference could prove the difference between life and death. By being aware, people can protect themselves. So, we aspire to create aware citizens out of students through mission mrityunjay

Singh said that one must learn to question. If in an auditorium there is thermos or toy kept, we must see if there is anything suspicious. If so, we should immediately inform the police. There are only 700 police in Pimpri-Chinchwad. But our information gathering has strengthened manifold thanks to the 1,400 members of 54 colleges.

When asked if students will be trained to act in emergency situations, Singh said, “There will be training sessions for students in various colleges We will train them how to react in emergency situation, how to direct people in a market or in an auditorium when an emergency arises.”

Col Lalit Kapoor from College of Military Engineering, Dapodi also addressed the students. He said that improvised explosive devices (IED) is used in blasts. They ensure maximum damage at cheap cost. IED’s can be planted in cycles, cigarette, beer bottles, bags, flashguns and shoes.

Kapoor said that during emergency, people should not crowd around the suspicious spot. Rather, they should try to get away from the place as fast as possible as there might be more bombs planted in the area. Also, if possible, one should keep sandbags or mattresses around the bomb to reduce the impact in case of an explosion. In case the bomb is planted in a room, one should open all doors and windows to reduce the impact.
