Chandigarh With the arrest of four persons, the police claim to have solved the robbery that took place in a factory in Industrial Area last month.

Three quintals of aluminum were also recovered from the possession of the four, identified as Ram Pal, Satyawan, Sushil Kumar of Manimajra and Ram Chander of Dhanas. They were arrested following surveillance of their cellphones.

The police said the accused had stolen 40 quintals of aluminum scrap from plot number 28/9, Phase II, Industrial Area, on the intervening night of December 23 and 24. They had also allegedly assaulted the plot’s watchman Raju and tied him up before escaping in a truck. They sold the scrap to a junk dealer in Jind for Rs 40,000 and distributed the amount among themselves.

Police said they found a slip carrying the phone numbers of the associates of the robbers from the spot. One of the numbers belonged to Ram Chander, which was not functional. The police found that Chander had lodged a missing mobile phone report at the Jind police station. Chander later procured another SIM card. Though the location was traced to Uttar Pradesh, the police kept a track and arrested him when he visited the city again.

Pal, a junk dealer, told the police that he would visit the plot regularly to buy scrap. He later hatched a conspiracy to steal the scrap and they hired a truck for Rs 6,000 to carry the booty.
