Kolkata The situation in Darjeeling is showing no sign of returning to normal in the near future, with the police launching a crackdown on the Gorkhaland Police (GLP) — volunteer force of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) — evicting them from three buildings belonging to the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC) today.

While the police today evicted GLP members from three buildings situated at Pedong, Reling and Delo — all in Kalimpong sub-division — which they have been occupying for the last two years, the police have also served notice to GLP to vacate six other buildings situated across the hills.

“We received complaints about the illegal occupation and on the basis of those complaints we took action,” Surojit Kar Purokayastha, Inspector General, Law and Order, said.

“There was hardly any resistance from GLP cadres and they vacated the buildings peacefully,” he added.

The situation in Darjeeling was by and large peaceful on the fourth day of the indefinite bandh called by the Morcha.

Tomorrow, meanwhile, a 10-member delegation of All India Gorkha league (AIGL), led by its president Bharati Tamang, will meet Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.

Bharati is the wife of Madan Tamang, who was murdered by armed miscreants in Darjeeling on May 25.

The AIGL team is coming to meet the CM with a demand for a CBI inquiry into Tamang’s murder and arrest of the real culprits involved in the murder.

“Members of the GJM are definitely involved in the murder. But the police have not yet been able to nab the real culprits.

They are roaming free, while the GJM has unleashed a reign of terror here. We will request the CM to take action regarding this,” Mohan Sharma, assistant secretary of AIGL, told The Indian Express from Darjeeling over phone.

GJJM murdabd..... by Thedu Bhutia on 23 Jun 2010

Very good! GLP must banned. Govt. must take strict action against the GLP including GJJM leaders. They are doing dadagiri in the hills. Poor peoople are suffering in this strike. If they have guts then why don't strike in siliguri instead of Darjeeling. People now wake up...... for democracy... 1st there must be democracy in the hill and later about Gorkhaland or Gorkha-Adivashi Pradesh... wat..wat...... confuese....... Bimal Gurung himself don't know actually what we want. He doesnot have any quality being a president.
