Kolkata The police have still not been able to trace Yash Lakhotia, the seven-year-old son of a Howrah-based businessman, who was allegedly kidnapped on Thursday.

The sleuths have not ruled out the possibility of a business rivalry behind the alleged abduction. Yash’s father Anil Lakhotia is a resident of Mallick Phatak area in Howrah and owns a reputed sweet shop. He also runs a construction business.

Howrah police chief Niraj Kumar Singh said that two employees of MCKV School, where Yash was a Class II student, and the driver and cleaner of the pool car that used to drop Yash at home have been detained for interrogation. But he refused to disclose the identity of the detained people. The police are, however, sure that Yash was picked up from the school.

On Thursday, when Yash did not return home from school, the Lakhotia family contacted the school authorities, but they were told that Yash had boarded his pool car at the usual time.

Subsequently, Yash’s father lodged a complaint with the Bali police station and a search was launched to trace the boy.

According to a relative, Yash’s classmate had seen him leaving the school premises with an unidentified man.

However, when contacted, the school authorities refused to comment on the issue.

Meanwhile, the incidence has sparked tension among locals, who alleged the police did not take up the case seriously from the very beginning. They also organised a road blockade near the residence of the Lakhotias on Friday morning.
