Mumbai Cops share notes on disaster, terror preparedness with Gamdevi residents

The Gamdevi police held an interactive session with the residents on Friday to create awareness on what a citizen should do in an event of a disaster, especially a terror attack.

The event was held at the Seva Sadan society in Gamdevi and was also attended by school principals and hotel owners of the area. The audience was addressed by police officers from Gamdevi police station, the bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS), the fire brigade officials and Aniruddh Bapu of the Aniruddha Academy of Disaster Management (AADI), a voluntary organisation that helps firemen in time of disaster.

The bomb disposal squad officers informed the locals about their functioning through a slideshow. The AADI volunteers demonstrated the special techniques of ferrying the injured persons to safe locations using the materials and articles of clothing at hand so that their injuries are not complicated. At the end, M Desai, the officer in-charge of the Gowalia tank fire station, talked about how to react in the case of a fire so as to make firemen’s job easier.

“There is a need for common people to be aware of what they can do in a time of terror attack or a disaster, as they can help in making authorities’ work a little easier. So, we have organised this event,” said senior police inspector Narayan Dumbare.
