Mumbai Officials from AA Khan and Associates, an anti-piracy agency, and the Nagpada police seized VCDs and DVDs of latest movies from a processing unit in Kamathipura on Friday evening. Cops claim that this is a unique step as for the first time a processing unit was raided as opposed to a private dealer’s shop. The seized movies include the recent release Dev D and last year’s smash hit Ghajini.

As per the Nagpada police the raid took place following a tip-off about pirated CDs and other devices used for making such CDs stored in a warehouse. Police sub-inspector Anil Katke from the Nagpada police station said, “After receiving the information we formed a team of officials with members of AA Khan and Associates and raided the unit located at Bengali House in Kamathipura.” In the raid the police team seized scanners, computers and devices used to produce 10 copies of a movie at the same time apart from inlay cards and DVDs of Hindi, English and regional movies.

“One Rashid Hanif Mohammad (48), who was present at the unit, was arrested and charged under the Copyright Act. There were over 3000 CDs and DVDs valued at around Rs 3.5 lakh. The pirated videos were supposed to be supplied all over central Mumbai. We are conducting further enquiries and more arrests are expected in the case,” said Katke.
