New Delhi In the wake of Mumbai terror attacks, the government has decided to appoint an Inspector-rank officer for anti-terrorist operations in all police stations in the Capital.

The Inspector (Anti-Terrorist Operations) will look after beat patrolling, ‘eyes and ears’ scheme and security audit of potential vulnerable places and buildings in his police station area, a senior police official said on Friday. The official order appointing Inspector (ATO) for all 133 police stations was issued today, the official said, adding the move does not mean recruitment of new officers but only re-designation of existing personnel.

“The Inspector (Law and Order) has been re-designated as Inspector (Anti-Terrorist Operations) and from now, law and order duties will be performed by Station House Officers,” the official said. The Inspector (Anti-Terrorist Operations) will keep a continuous liaison with all stakeholders and security audit of potential terror targets like multi-storeyed office complexes, star hotels, RWAs, shopping malls and multiplexes.

Besides, the official said, he will also have to ensure implementation of all orders issued under Section 144 of CrPC pertaining to preventing anti-terrorist strikes. The SHO would himself perform all other duties assigned to the Inspector (Law and Order).
