Rajkot, March 4 Mystery still surrounds the identity of the man who was found dead on a hotel terrace in the Union Territory of Diu. Three days after the body was found, the name and address of the deceased is still unknown, while a couple, with whom the man had stayed at the hotel, has been absconding.

According to the Diu police, on February 29, three persons had checked into Jayshankar Hotel at Jalandhar beach. They were staying in room number 104. On March 1, the body of one of them was found on the terrace. The couple had checked-out in the early hours. Since then, the police have been trying to identify the deceased as well as the two with whom he had shared the room. The cause of the death is not known, as a postmortem is yet to be done.

As per the hotel records, the room was booked in the name of one Sharad Bhagwan. When the police contacted on the mobile phone number mentioned in the register, Bhagwan received the call. He said the man accompanying them was Kurshi Makwana, a resident of Badadia village in Visavadar taluka of Junagadh district. He added they have been working as diamond polisher for three years. According to Bhagwan, Makwana wanted to go to Visavadar, and had left the room on the night of February 29, whereas they checked-out the next morning around 5.30 am.

However, the police investigations revealed that both the name and the address given by Bhagwan were fake. And the cellphone number is switched off since then.

The police also found that the address registered with the mobile phone service provider company did not belong to Bhagwan. According to the telecom company, the address of the owner of the number that Bhagwan had answered is Setlal Society, Block Number B-48 near Hirbaug in Surat. But on that address, no such person was found.
