A team of police personnel has already been dispatched from Chandigarh to arrest the person. An official said: “We got the communication from the Regional Passport Office on Tuesday about the particulars of the person who has booked a ticket and is travelling on one of the stolen passports. The team will arrest the person and bring him to Chandigarh for investigation.”
Police confirmed they had been keeping a close watch on the person and the flight. “The authorities have confirmed that the person had boarded the flight yesterday and will reach Mumbai on Wednesday,” the source said.
Police said they would investigate whether the person is aware of the fact that the passport was stolen. “He may be or may not be aware of the fact that the passport is one of the stolen ones. He will be questioned only after bringing him to Chandigarh,” police officers said.
Forty-eight passports were stolen from the RPO office in October 2007. Lucky, an alleged human trafficker, was the mastermind who forged passports in the names to enable people to leave the country.
