The graduation student (name withheld) was reportedly threatened by an unknown assailant in the college washroom on Thursday. He was also reportedly told that the college was at risk. However, neither the police nor college authorities have confirmed on record that the teenager has received any such threat.
Police visited the campus following the scare on Thursday and escorted the boy out of college. Sources said the teenager did not attend classes on Friday.
A senior officer said bomb disposal and dog squads searched the premises on Friday morning as a precautionary measure while security personnel checked the identity cards of students entering the college campus.
Following the incident, notices were put up at many places in the college today saying that only students with valid identity cards will be allowed in. Three entry gates around the college, including the one that leads to the Science Block of Delhi University, had also been closed. Sources said a bomb disposal team and dog squad scanned the campus today — the library and washrooms, too, were scanned.
College principal Reverand Valson Thampu called for an “emergency meeting” with the students on Friday afternoon — he reportedly told the students that security has been tightened in the college due to “security reasons”. Thampu told the students that they will have to carry identity cards at all times when they are in college — those without identity cards will not be allowed inside the campus, the students were told.
Thampu also told the students that they can get in only through the main gate of the college. Thampu also asked the students to report to the authorities any suspicious person found inside the campus. A telephone number will be given to the students soon for this, Thampu told the pupils.
Newsline could not contact principal Thampu despite repeated phone calls.
