Chandigarh Police will move an application in the district court on Saturday seeking reimbursement of all expenses that will be incurred by the German woman, who was allegedly kidnapped and gangraped by six youths in September last year, and her father during their visit beginning January 15.

The victim, along with her father and Thomas, a German police officer deputed with the German Embassy in India, is coming to the city to depose in the case.

“She is a witness and there is a provision in the law to reimburse expenses incurred by the victim for the visits, if coming from far off places,” Assistant Superintendent of Police Madhur Verma said.

Sources said though the police have made arrangements for the stay of the victim, her father and Thomas, the victim plans to stay somewhere else. “They have communicated their plans to us and we have made the arrangements accordingly. The visitors would be provided security so that nobody tries to hurt them,” Madhur added.

The police have also forwarded a panel of three translators to the court. It includes two translators from Panjab University and the third is Thomas, the German police officer. The ASP said though the victim can speak and understand English to a great extent, they do not want to take any chance. “The translator would act as a communicator between the court and the victim.” This will bring clarity in recording the statements, he added.

Six youths had picked up the 20-year-old woman from Germany from the parking of the Taj Hotel on September 28 and allegedly gangraped her. In the complaint, the victim had told the police that she had come out of the hotel for a smoke when one of the accused started talking to her. Thereafter, the accused took the woman to an abandoned place, raped her and dropped her at one of her friend’s house in Sector 20 the next day. The police nabbed all the accused, who were on the run, within a week of the crime. The CFSL report of the vaginal swabs of the victim had confirmed rape.
