Number plates on the vehicle recovered on Wednesday night were found to be false. Its engine number has been sent to the Regional Transport Office in Lucknow for the identification of its owner.
Two days after the kidnapping, Surjeet Singh, a local farmer, had approached the police saying he had spotted Yogendra’s Santro at Lohia Bridge. Surjeet also told the police that he saw a Maruti van standing there. Three men reportedly got down from the van and sat in Yogendra’s car.
Jagdish Singh, Station Officer, Malani police station, said: “Surjeet was then not aware that the three businessmen were being kidnapped, so he did not stop and went his own way.” SP, Lakhimpur N Ravindar said, “The van found by us is the same that was used in the crime. We spotted the van in the Nagalganj area.”
In his FIR, Yogendra’s brother, Gulshan Bhasin, stated that his brother and two of his friends had gone to his farmhouse, located in the Kukra area under Malani police circle. They were returning home when some unidentified men kidnapped them. A day later, the police found Bhasin’s car in Shahjahanpur.
