Chandigarh, February 5 Fortis Hospital Mohali observed the World Cancer Day on Monday by inviting all Saarthak members including cancer survivors and their families for a special session with Dr Rajeev Bedi.

Announcing free oncology check-up for anyone who undergoes the preventive health check-up this week, Fortis Hospital Medical Director Dr Ashok V Chordiya said, “For us oncology patients are very special and the Fortis family is always there to provide them with all the required support and guidance.”

The session started with a special prayer by patients and their families. On the occasion, Dr Rajeev Bedi questioned the patients on different issues related with cancer.

“Every month we invite Saarthak members and educate them on ways to cope up with cancer. Today, the session is very special as we have decided to let the patients speak their heart out and share their experiences with us”, he said.

One of the cancer survivors, Varinder Singh Kaur, said the initial reaction of her family members was of shock. Kaur said she was always very positive about her recovery with proper treatment. Her husband further added that it is a general tendency of people to equate cancer with death, which is not correct. “It is possible to recover if treatment is taken on time,” he added.

Colonel Pardip Singh, another patient asserted that one should never panic and should fight the disease bravely.

Dr Bedi emphasised the fact that family support for cancer patients is very important. He further clarified various myths related with cancer. “Cancer does not spread by human touch. A positive approach and strong will to fight the disease are important for the patient to recover fully from the disease,” he added.
