Kolkata Minister for Urban Development Ashok Bhattacharya on Thursday said the state police squandered away a golden opportunity in Darjeeling to rein in Gorkha Janmukti Morcha after the killing of All India Gorkha League leader Madan Tamang on May 21. “After the brutal killing of Tamang, there was a surge of anti-Morcha wave in the Hills. It was time to re-establish the rule of law and bring back normalcy. But unfortunately the police could not use the opportunity,” said Bhattacharya. Meanwhile, Morcha leaders met some leading lawyers to discuss the legal defence of the three people, arrested by the CID in connection with Tamang’s murder. “We will provide them all legal support. We will also hit the streets if the CID arrests any more person,” Morcha president Bimal Gurung said.

Time of unity not condolence and for democracy. by kishan rai on 21 Jun 2010

why the leaders of opposition do not understand that this is the crucial time of showing unity of Gorkhas. If this movement of Gorkhaland fails, have they ever thought the consequence after that. The poeple of Gorkha community will never forgive those leaders who are in the name of Sri Madan Tamang, trying to disrupt the movement. It is better to die with identity rather then Democracy.

Why Bengal police failed to protect ? by Samir Thapa on 11 Jun 2010

Late Mr. Madan Tamang was staged by the Bengal govt, used by it to sabotage Gorkhaland movement, defame GJMM with baseless allegations and finally disposed him off. Mr Bhattacharya now want to extract political mileage from his unfortunate death. The police bodyguards ran away when Mr Tamang, who was armed with a revolver, clashed with a emotionally charged mob of GJMM supporters. Why is Bengal not requesting CBI enquiry? Why is Mr. Bhattacharya prompting for mass arrest of GJMM workers without any evidences? State govt failed to protect Mr. Tamang and shamelessly trying to blame GJMM for his unfortunate death.
