Greater NOIDA Italian multinational Gra-ziano Transmissioni India Pvt has got a new head, nearly five months after its former chief executive officer cum managing director was beaten to death, allegedly by the company’s employees.

In his late forties, new CEO Vivek Prakash has had a long career in the auto industry. After graduating from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, Prakash joined Eicher Motors at its Hisar branch. A former colleague said Prakash was soon made a senior official.

The engineer then switched to another multinational dealing in engine components, called Continental Engines of the Baxy group. A stop at the Minda Group later, Prakash joined Graziano. Graziano Transmissioni’s country arm makes spare parts for automobiles and is located in Udyog Kendra, Greater Noida.

Though Vivek Prakash could not be contacted, nor other members of the management, one could sense relief among the company’s employees. The new CEO joined in the beginning of this month. A senior official said: “Soon after he joined, he started meeting vendors. An old hand at quality management, he is also looking into processes and administrative works. The staff has got new strength after he assumed office.” Prakash’s friends described him as hardworking and soft-spoken.

Former CEO Lalit Kishore Chaudhury was clubbed to death by disgruntled employees on September 22 last year, when he was trying to negotiate a package for dismissed employees. The company had closed doors a few months prior to that, and Chaudhury was trying to rehire some of the fired employees under different terms. A mob of irate employees went berserk, allegedly after a dispute rose over the terms.
