New Delhi, March 3 As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, the BSES has decided to target schoolchildren in a bid to spread awareness about energy conservation.

Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely launched the ‘Bijli Gyan Abhiyan’ of the BSES Yamuna Power Ltd. (BYPL) on Monday. This aims at educating and sensitising students across 500 schools in Delhi about power generation, its transmission and distribution, while laying a special emphasis on energy conservation.

Delhi Power Minister Dr A K Walia released BSES’s Bijli Gyan, an educative audio-visual CD on energy conservation, which will be screened across various schools in the city. “Students can be good brand ambassadors for energy conservation,” he said.

The initiative has initially been launched in BYPL areas of East and Central Delhi.

“The contents of the 10-minute CD have been carefully chosen and scripted by professionals with help from both BSES and industry experts,” a BSES official said.

As a first step, the BYPL will distribute the CDs to all selected private and government schools in East and Central Delhi. “In order to encourage maximum participation from schools and students alike, we will make arrangements to screen the CD in schools that do not have such facilities,” said Arun Kanchan, CEO, BYPL.

The screening would be followed by three rounds of a quiz and six winners would be selected from the participating schools. The winners will be given cash prizes worth Rs 15,000, Rs 12,500 and Rs 10,000.

Depending on the success of this scheme, the same will be replicated in areas that come under BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd (BRPL).
