Kolkata In spite of assurances given by the state electricity board that there will be no power cuts during examinations, instances of power cuts continue to plague the ongoing Madhyamik examinations this year.

Reports of sporadic power cuts during the examination hours kept pouring in from various centres across the city on Thursday. “There were instances of power cuts at some centres on Wednesday. But we were not informed about them,” said Mamata Roy, president of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. Board officials said that at places power cuts lasted for a few minutes and thus did not create any problems.

At Manashadip Kanak Memorial Girls High School in Sagar Islands in South 24 Paraganas, parents complained that the examination halls were not properly lit. The school authorities, however, told the board that there has been no problem with the lights but they would arrange a generator from Friday. Meanwhile, guardians of the students protested at Jadavpur Girls High School alleging the candidates were not allowed to enter the school premises half an hour before the examination. When boards officials contacted the headmistress of the school, she denied the allegations and said the students were allowed to enter on time.
