Pune, February 29 The city unit of Patil Pavan Sanghatana (PPS) attacked the City Pride theatre on Pune-Satara Road to protest against the screening of Jodhaa Akbar on Thursday evening. The Swargate police has arrested six PPS members.

The PPP members went to the theatre around 10.15 pm and pelted stones on the glass furnishing when the movie was on. They then fled on their motorbikes. However, a watchman at the theatre managed to note down the number of one of their bikes which led to the arrests. A police team comprising of assistant inspector K V Indalkar, constables Sanjay Rasale, Amjad Pathan, Mahendra Pawar, H S Jambhule and Mukund Salunke arrested the six.

Police protection was then provided to the theatre on Friday. Niranjan Phadke, general secretary of PPS, Pune city, said, “The PPS had initially no plans to protest against the movie as it is based on history. But ever since it was released, we observed that the movie is hurting religious sentiments.”
