Patiala A former accountant in the Punjab Public Service Commission in Patiala today confirmed before a local court that secret funds to the tune of Rs 11.6 lakh were entirely utilised by the then PPSC chairman Ravinder Pal Singh Sidhu.

Deposing before the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Sukhwinder Kaur, Karam Singh said that proper procedure was followed in the utilisation of secret funds of the Commission.

He added that secret funds were meant for paper-setting, printing and paper-evaluation and these were utilised by the then chairman Ravi Sidhu during his tenure.

Earlier, while recording his statement before the court in the case, Karam had stated that he had paid a sum of Rs 11.6 lakh out of the PPSC secret fund to the then chairman, Ravinder Pal Singh Sidhu, who spent the entire money and later presented the utilisation certificate of the amount to the office.

He also stated that a demand for the said amount had come to him 23 times and he subsequently released the amount after issuing the utilisation certificates.

“The money was spent entirely by Sidhu and no details regarding the how it was spent were provided to me,” he said.

All the accused, including Sidhu, were present in the court during the hearing.
