Prakash blasts ton as Karnataka win final

Lucknow, February 3 Prakash blasted a century as his team—- Karnataka defeated Haryana by 23 runs in the final of the 7th Dr Shakuntala Misra memorial inter-state cricket tournament for the visually impaired at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium, here on Sunday. The tournament was organised by the Dr Shakuntala Misra Smriti Sewa Sansthan, Lucknow

Choosing to bat first after winning the toss, Karnataka scored 219 runs losing five wickets in the given 20 overs, thanks to a splendid 115-run knock by Prakash. Virender Singh grabbed two wickets.

In reply, Haryana was bowled out at a total of 196 runs in 18.4 overs. Sikander Shah with 45 was the main run-getter. Shekhar Nayak and Mahesh took two wickets each.

Justice Pradeep Kant who was the chief guest during the final match, awarded the trophies to the winners and runners-up teams and individual prizes. Karnataka team players Prakash and Shekhar Nayak were declared ‘Best Batsman’ and ‘Best Bowler’, respectively, Dinesh Kumar of Haryana won the ‘Man-of-the-Series’ Award. Karnataka player Mallikarjun was declared ‘Best player of the tournament’.

On the occasion of the closing ceremony of the tourney held in the evening, the visually challenged children presented a cultural programme and exhibited other arts at CMS Auditorium, LDA Colony, Kanpur Road, Lucknow in which UP Chief Minister Mayawati was the chief guest.

Karnataka: 219 for five in 20 overs ( Prakash 115 not out, Shekhar Nayak 23, Virender Singh 2 for 44);

Haryana: 196 all out in 18.4 overs ( Sikander Shah 45, Karan Singh 18, Shekhar Nayak 2 for 23, Mahesh 2 for 17).

Man-of-the-match: Prakash (Karnataka).
