Bathinda Imagine a stroll down the park with your newborn daughter in a pram bringing about attitudinal change in society. Sounds incredible!

From January 20, the Sangrur district Health Department will gift prams to the parents of three to six-month-old girls with a message against female foeticide.

Sangrur MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa yesterday gave a go-ahead to the ambitious project, which would also be replicated in other districts.

MPLAD funds lying unspent under the PNDT Awareness head would be used in the project, it was learnt. “There are about Rs 5 lakh lying unspent, which will be used for the project,” Dhindsa said.   Sangrur Civil Surgeon Dr Dalip Kumar, the brain behind the initiative, told The Indian Express, “To begin with, 70 to 80 prams carrying the insignia of PNDT and messages, like ‘Beti bachao’ will be distributed in each block of the district.”

“It is a wonderful initiative,” said Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who has initiated Nanhi Chhaan programme aimed at saving the girl child and the environment.
