The matter was settled after West Bengal Pradesh Congress chief Pranab Mukherjee met Congress president Sonia Gandhi at her 10 Janpath residence in New Delhi on Sunday evening.

It is learnt that during the meeting, it was decided that the Congress would back out on some seats that it had been demanding from the Trinamool. After the meeting, Mukherjee spoke with Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee over phone from Delhi.

On March 1, Mukherjee and Banerjee made a joint announcement of forging an alliance. However, both the parties failed to reach unanimity over certain seats, as Congress demanded lucrative seats in south Bengal from Trinamool.

“Let them first announce, then I will do so here. At first it was two days (for announcing the seat-sharing) then it became seven days. Let us wait for some more time,” Banerjee said here on Sunday after she had a closed door meeting of party's top functionaries.

At the meeting that was held in Chetla, she told her party's functionary that she has been waiting for the past eight days only because she wants to defeat CPM in all the 42 seats in the state. “We have finalised our list, it will take seconds to announce it,” said Banerjee at the meeting.
