Pregnant girl’s body found in pit, father booked

Etah In a tragic end to a family's bid to evade social stigma, an unmarried teenage girl died allegedly during their attempt to abort her child after which she was secretly buried in a pit at her village.

According to the police, a case of culpable homicide and destruction of evidence has been filed against the girl's father and three others.

Aneeta (18), from Jeesakhpur village in the district, was allegedly having an affair with a youth and had got pregnant. When her family members came to know about it, they tried to abort the child on their own, but the girl died, said a police officer.

The family members buried her body in a pit in the village, in Bagwala area.

Acting on a complaint filed by some villagers, police recovered the body from the pit and carried out a postmortem.

A case under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) has been registered with Bagwala police station against Aneeta's father and three others.

On their part, the family members claimed that Aneeta committed suicide.
