Pune Describing the field journalism as a big challenge for those pursuing it, noted litteratuer Ramchandra Dekhane advised journalists to reach to the bottom of a story, but at the same time maintain purity of the job. Dekhane was speaking on "Patrakarita and sahitya" at the Patrakar Din programme organised by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Shramik Patrakar Sangh in Pimpri on Tuesday.

Enlivening his speech with anecdotes, Dekhane said, "A journalist keeps tab of everything happening around him. That's nothing skips his eye. He presents every aspect of the society as he sees it." Dekhane said a journalist and a writer are related to each other and both of them are vital cogs of a society.

In his speech, Sangh president Nandkumar Saturdekar highlighted the various programmes undertaken by the sangh for the benefit of journalists and their families. He cited the problems being faced by the journalists, especially in view of the economic meltdown. He said there is a Domacles' sword hanging over the heads many hard-working and committed journalists, who he said, needed support from the society. In his address, Municipal Commissioner Asheesh Sharma praised journalists for their contribution to the progress of the township. He extended support from the PCMC for various welfare activities conducted by the sangh. Mayor Aparna Doke also eulogised journalists for their good work and promised all help in their welfare work. On the occasion, journalists Milind Vaidya and Manoj More were felicitated. Others honoured include Vivek Inamdar and Prashant Patil.

Among others, Shiv Sena city chief Bhagwan Walhekar, former mayor Vaishali Ghodekar corporators Seema Savle, Mohini Lande, Jeetendra Nanaware, Prakash Babar, Ghanshyam Khedekar and Sulbha Ubale were present. Vinod Pawar proposed a vote of thanks.
