The MC also awarded the work permit of Rs 10 lakh for the development and beautification of the said land to the Samana Cooperative Society. The society would install fountains and beautify the land where the statue of Lord Parshuram is already installed.
The issue, which has been lingering on for over seven years, was resolved with the intervention of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. Patiala Mayor Ajit Pal Singh Kohli said the representatives of the Brahmin Sabha had earlier met the chief minister, who had directed to resolve the issue with the development of a park at the site. Sources said the land, measuring about 600 square yards, cost a few crores in the open market and was being eyed by the Brahmin Sabha for long. The mayor had constituted a committee comprising five councillors and three members of the Brahmin Sabha to resolve the issue. Devi Dayal Prashar, president of the Punjab Brahmin Sabha, termed the decision as “good”.
