Prisoner dies of ‘illness’ in Dasna Jail

New Delhi An inmate of Dasna Prison died under mysterious circumstances on Thursday. Though reasons for the death are still unconfirmed, V K Singh, jail superintendent claimed the inmate died due to deteriorating health. The inmate, Mahaveer, a resident of Meerut, was sent to Dasna Jail two months ago. He was arrested by the Noida police on charges for possessing fake registration certificates and driving licences. “He was arrested by the police for making fake vehicle documents. The accused was 50 years old,” said Anil Samania, station house officer, Sector 39.

Jail authorities claimed the inmate was ill and died on the way to the district hospital.

This is the second inmate death in the span of a few months at the jail. Another inmate of the same prison, known criminal Ravinder Pradhan also died in Dasna under mysterious circumstances a few months ago.

District Magistrate Ghaziabad Deepak Aggarwal said, “We are waiting for the postmortem report. Jail authorities have said the inmate was not feeling well for the last one week and developed complications like breathing problems in the morning,” added the DM.
