Vadodara, January 19 An Inmate of the Vadodara Central Jail was found dead in his cell. According to the Raopura police, deceased Jayesh Shah had several injuries when he was imprisoned on January 15. But it could not be ascertained whether the death occurred due to those injuries.

Initially, the jail authorities could not confirm the death of Shah and it was ascertained by the Raopura police.

Sources at the SSG Hospital said that the body was abandoned for a long time after it was brought there. However, the police said that investigation was launched after the incident came to light. They have denied any foul play in the jail and suspect that the injuries could have resulted in the death

The post-mortem report has been sent to Gandhinagar and the authorities are expected to comment on the matter only after going through it. The jail authorities, on the other hand, were tight-lipped whether any kind of medical attention was extended to the victim.

Shah was brought to the jail after the district court ordered a sentence of 15 days for drunken behaviour and violence in Raopura area.

Recently, a scuffle was reported inside the jail when some of the inmates demanded relaxation in visitor’s rule for their relatives. However, the jail authorities denied any such incident but said the demand had been there for a while.
