Ahmedabad The private medical practitioners in Modasa withdrew their strike on Saturday. They had been on strike for the last three days in protest against the raids on private clinics in the aftermath of the Hepatitis B outbreak in the region.

Meanwhile, the Health Department continued its state-wide crackdown on doctors violating norms of safe medical practice.

Dr Yogesh Upadhyaya, the Modasa secretary of the Indian Medical Association, said that following negotiations with the district officials, they have withdrawn the strike and have admitted patients in their clinics as well.

After a scrap dealer had named six doctors in connection with used syringes and needles, health officials filed police cases against them and sealed their clinics.

Angered by this, private medical practitioners went on strike three days ago, with pathology laboratories as well as medical stores joining in.

The association demanded that action against doctors be taken only after proper notices are served and not arbitrarily.

The state Health Department, Food and Drugs Department and local district authorities are jointly checking clinics of private medical practitioners across the state, raiding scrap dealers in search of bio-medical waste, and identifying fake doctors operating in the state.

The state government has till date filed police complaints against over 20 doctors and booked more than 50 touts for operating without proper licences.

The drive continued on Saturday in various districts including Bharuch, Patan, Modasa, Ahmedabad, Dahod and Anand.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation health officials have so far filed police complaints against eight doctors under the Medical Practitioners Act, sealed 35 clinics for improper disposal of bio-medical waste and issued 461 notices to doctors across the city.
