Pune, February 4 The Confederation of the Central Government Employee's Workers and Pensioners, Pune branch has vehemently opposed the privatisation of health care through the health insurance scheme. A statement issued by B P Kamble, general secretary of the confederation, claimed that while no date has been announced for formally launching the scheme, it is likely to be implemented from April 1, this year. The Central Government pensioners have been demanding that either the CGHS be expanded to cover the entire country or the pensioners be brought under the purview of the CS(MA) rules like the serving employees in such stations.

The government has informed the Supreme Court that they are working on a health insurance scheme to cover both serving employees as well as pensioners and say that the insurance premium will broadly be shared by the government and its employees/pensioners in the ratio 75:15.

The govt has proposed the scheme with three lakh assured number of beneficiaries at an expected amount of premium per annum of Rs 8000 (total payable premium 240 crore and government share being 180 crore). Each beneficiary will have to contribute Rs 2000 per annum as premium and will be covered for three lakh. As the number of beneficiares increase the premium will be reduced.

The members pointed out that government does not want to undertake health care for its employees and pensioners. In stead of CGHS, it wants to offer an health insurance with subsidised premium of Rs 3 lakh per annum.
