The ATS on Monday submitted before the special court in Shivajinagar that Riyaz Bhatkal, Iqbal Bhatkal and Ahmed Yasin, founders and top operatives of the IM, had provided counterfeit notes to Maulana Hussain Shabbir Gangavali (29), who was arrested in Pune with Rs 25,000 in fake Rs 100 notes at a Janwadi mosque on December 30.
Assistant police inspector Atul Sabnis, assistant sub-inspector Rajendra Thorve of Pune ATS unit produced Gangavali in the court. The ATS sought an extension of his custody alleging that he and the Bhatkal brothers were involved in supplying fake currency to terror outfits.
The ATS wants to take Gangavali out of Maharashtra for investigation. Special judge G G Itkalkar, however, remanded Gangavali to magisterial custody till January 23.
The Karnataka police will soon take Gangavali into their custody as he is wanted in a case registered with the Ullal police station in Mangalore, where he is booked under the Indian Penal Code, the Explosives Act and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
