Promoter held for woman client’s murder in Rajarhat

Kolkata The police today arrested a promoter for allegedly killing a woman client at his construction site on the eastern fringes of the city following a heated argument over delay in handing over a flat to her.

The body of the woman, reported missing since June 1, was today found in Bhojerhat area near Rajarhat in South 24-Parganas.

The victim has been identified as Huma Naser, a resident of Patwar Bagan Lane. Abdul Naser, the deceased’s husband, had lodged a missing complaint with the Tiljala police station on June 1. He is said to have told police her wife had come to meet the promoter with whom they had struck a deal of buying a flat.

The police have arrested the promoter, Sheikh Hassan, from his Tiljala residence along with four of his associates who helped him remove the body from the spot.

Hassan is said to have confessed police interrogation he had murdered the woman. “It was in the heat of the moment. I did not intend to murder her,” he reportedly told the police.

According to sources, there was a deal between the promoter and his client that she would Rs 75,000 as advance out of which she had paid Rs 63,000 one-and-a-half year ago.

The police said Hassan did not hand over the ownership papers of the flat to her and she would not pay rest of the amount.

“Huma went to meet the promoter on June 1. There was a heated argument. Hassan lost temper and hit Huma on her shoulder. She died at the spot,” a police officer said.
