The drugs seized, including tablets, capsules, syrups and injections, are mostly misused by addicts as intoxicants and cost over Rs 15 lakh approximately.

Launching a crackdown on the sale of psychotropic drugs to addicts, the team of inspectors from eight districts raided four godowns at Satta Bazaar Complex in Saban Bazar of Pindi Street, wherein psychotropic drugs had been stored.

The department, however, has so far not been able to find out who owns the stores.

The seizure includes 85,700 tablets, 24,000 capsules, 9,000 syrups and 8,355 injections which all are all potential intoxicants when misused.

Acting on information that a huge quantity of intoxicating drugs was stored in the four godowns at Satta Bazaar complex in Saban Bazar in Pindi Street, the team of drug inspectors headed by state drug controller Bhag Singh sealed the stores last night.

While nobody came to claim the stores, the team started the operation to uncover the drugs cache in the morning.

This is the second biggest drug haul by the health department after last year’s seizure of drugs worth Rs 35 lakh.

“We have seized the intoxicating medicines from these four stores and have initiated the proceedings against unidentified owners of the stores,” said Civil Surgeon Dr SP Sharma, adding that such drugs are mostly used as intoxicants and therefore chemists are supposed to keep proper records.
