Kolkata While the state government is keen on filling up the vacant posts of nearly 58,000 primary teachers in the state, PTTI students’ unions have now alleged that the recruitment drive is ridden with corruption.

Pintu Parui, general secretary of the West Bengal PTTI Students’ Union, claimed that the government is sending names of those candidates who were not called for interview in the year 2006. As per a recent Calcutta High Court order the vacancies in the year 2006 (about 42,000 of 58,000 vacancies) should be filled up as per the earlier move taken by the government in 2006.

There were two categories of students who were called for an interview in 2006 —- the PTTI trainees of the year in 2004-05 and few of the batch of 2003-04 and the second category was students who had enrolled in district-wise employment exchange and were called on the basis of their seniority.

“For an instance consider that in a district the employment exchange has sent names of candidates till the year 1988 based on their seniority. Now when the exchange has to send names of candidates they are calling candidates who have enrolled much later with the commission on recommendations and political favouritism,” said Parui.

“There have been such cases in all the districts, but in certain districts there are thousand of such cases. In case of South 24-Parganas as per the information we have there are 829 such students, who have been called but had enrolled much later with the commission,” said Parui.

How can a candidate who passed madhaymik examination in the year 2006 be enrolled with employment exchange in the year 1988, he argued.

Meanwhile, the officials are claiming that in case of calling students from employment exchanges different districts had followed different benchmarks.
