PU paints a rosy picture

Chandigarh To make the campus green and beautiful, the Horticulture department of the Panjab University organised a rose festival in collaboration with the ITFT Education Group on Friday. The fest was inaugurated by Advisor to the UT Administrator, Pardeep Mehra and will continue till 15 February.

Mehra lauded the efforts put in by the staff of the PU gardening department in establishing the appealing rose garden. He even assured that the Administration will extend all possible support for such ventures.

Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof R C Sobti said that seven new gardens have been established in two years including Herbal Garden, Palm Garden and Trifilla Garden. He further revealed that 73 rare varieties of roses from West Bengal have been planted in the Rose Garden.

The campus also has two beautiful gardens near the vice-chancellor and administrative office and has been developed under the supervision of Sub Divisional Officer of Horticulture department Anil Thakur, he said.

Many inter college competitions like solo and group dance, painting, rangoli making, photography, singing, fashion show will be held during the festival. Food stalls and swings like the giant wheel, columbus turned out to be crowd-pullers. A blood bank stall was also set up to motivate students to donate blood.

Second-year student of Mass Communication, Neha Kapoor, said, “It’s a great start by the university and this tradition should be carried every year.”
