The Code of Conduct (COC) will also be implemented, if the students are found violating norms. Once the COC is brought into effect, the punishment may range from a warning to an expulsion, authorities maintain.

Talking to Newsline, Dean of Students Welfare, Professor Naval Kishore said:

“A committee has been made to formulate the norms. To begin with, the student bodies will have to register themselves with the university. Before holding a protest, they will have to submit a memorandum in writing of the demands and the date on which the protest will be held.”

A PU official said, “There are times when outsiders are involved in the protest. Registration of bodies will check this. The aim of the whole process is to stop the students from coming out on the streets and protest for unworthy demands.”

Meanwhile, officials are trying to chalk out a system, wherein the students will be given punishment depending on the number of times they commit a mistake. Perpetual offenders might also be expelled on the pretext of showing no improvement.
