Pune, November 18 In a bid to reduce traffic snarls on M G Road and East Street area, the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) on Tuesday decided to initiate a plan from Monday under which the entire M G Road stretch will be converted into a one-way starting from Golibar Maidan Chowk up to Ambedkar Chowk near hotel Aurora Towers.

The proposed traffic arrangement, which will be implemented on a trial-basis for 15 days, was aimed at facilitating smooth flow of traffic coming from Kondhwa and Lullanagar towards Camp, which would further ease the regular bottlenecks preventing congestion in the area, PCB president Brig R J Sharma told reporters here after a traffic mobility meeting at the board office.

DCP (traffic) Manoj Patil said that the plan was aimed at reducing congestion in Pune cantonment besides disciplining the traffic entering Pune Cantonment from Golibar Maidan Chowk and Dr Ambedkar Chowk. "Once the plan takes effect, the vehicles coming from Kondhwa will directly head towards Ambedkar Chowk while vehicles coming from Ambedkar Chowk will take East Street to reach Khanya Maruti Chowk and Golibar Maidan en-route Lulla Nagar," Patil added.

When contacted, PCB chief executive officer S K Sardana said, "Depending on the results during the trial period, we will decide whether to make the arrangement a permanent one."
