He said that in these times of global slowdown the industry should not panic and instead of laying off employees could go for cut in salaries, if needed. “Technology should reach masses, industry and contribute towards development. In the IT sector e-waste is one of the major problem faced by the city today and social responsibility is needed to manage it,” said Kalmadi.

Inaugurating the two-day conference Dr RA Mashelkar, president, Global Research Alliance and chairman National Innovation Foundation said that it was the people of Pune who are the real catalyst behind the development of the city and apart from IT and manufacturing, the city should grow as ethical or moral capital. “ The city has all the fundamentals for becoming a global city, like talent, technology and tolerance,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion Mukesh Malhothra, president MCCIA, said a platform to create an eco-system for animation and gaming industry to grow is needed and the Hi Tech Pune could help t achieve this goal. “ Transparency is needed in governance and e-governance model can bring in transparency as well as speed in government departments,” he added.
