Pune The slowdown in passenger movement between Pune and Mumbai following the terror siege in Mumbai is expected to normalise from today. Following the three-day terror shoot out there was a drastic drop in commuters heading towards Mumbai.

"Things ought to return to normal by Monday. Usually on Sundays, we have only about 15 per cent of the regular load in any case. But we hope the crowds will return on Monday," said Central railway spokesperson, Shrinivas Mudgerikar.

Over 55 people died after two terrorists fired indiscriminately at the crowd in CST station in Mumbai on Wednesday. All intercity trains between Pune and Mumbai are docked at the CST Station. A sizeable number of passengers from Pune work around CST and Colaba area.

The Pune Mumbai Taxi Consumer Cooperative Society is also hoping that things will return to normal by Monday. A representative of the society said that the number of people traveling to Mumbai had increased substantially on Sunday. "But it is still less than what it was last Sunday or on a regular Sunday. The Divisional Traffic Controller Ashok Jadhav said that the crowds heading to Mumbai are back. In the immediate aftermath of the siege, Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation stands reported a 70 per cent drop in passenger movement between Pune and Mumbai.
