Punjabi University cyclists rule in all-India inter-university meet

Patiala, February 1 Taking advantage of the home conditions, hosts Punjabi University, Patiala proved their superiority and started their campaign with a bang in the All-India Inter-University Cycling Championships (Men and women) that got under way at the University cycling track here today. Punjabi University's cyclists cornered top positions in all the events that were held on Friday.

In the men's 1500 metres team time trial event, Punjabi University, Patiala team comprising of Sarpreet Singh, Kamalpreet Singh, Gursharandeep Singh and Iqbaljeet Singh clinched the top spot with a time of 1 minute and 50.793 seconds. The team of Panjab University, Chandigarh comprising of Jagdeep Singh, Satinder Pal Singh, Bakshish Singh and Harpinder Singh bagged the second position with a timing of 1 minute and 56.453 seconds while the team of Bikaner University comprising of Om Prakash, Ram Narayan, Shrawan Kumar and Amit Ranga clinched the third spot with a timing of 1 minute and 58.507 seconds.

In the women's 1500 metres team time trial event, the team of Punjabi university comprising of Rajwinder Kaur, Ramandeep kaur, Suman and Sukhpaul Kaur bagged the top honours with a timing of 2 minutes and 16.492 seconds while the second spot was clinched by the team of Kerala university comprising of Mehta Mohan, Mable Antony, Deepa Chandran and Reshmi, who clocked a timing of 2 minutes and 20.515 seconds. The team of Panjab University, Chandigarh comprising of Gurpreet Kaur, Anupreet Kaur, Nisha Rani and Karamjeet Kaur came third with a timing of 2 minutes and 24.330 seconds.

In the men’s 1 Km mass start event, six cyclists qualified for the finals. Kamalpreet (Punjabi University, Patiala), Arun Mohan (Kerala University), Manish Sawhney (Punjabi University, Patiala), Amit Ranga (Bikaner University), Prasad Sunil (Pune University) and Satinder Pal Singh (Panjab University, Chandigarh) are the six cyclists who will feature in the final.
