Kolkata The 12-hour Purulia bandh called by the CPM passed off peacefully on Wednesday without any untoward incidents being reported, the police said.

The police, however, are yet to get a breakthrough in the murder of CPM local committee member Haradhan Majhi in Purulia on Tuesday. They are yet to ascertain whether the Maoists were involved in the murder. A huge contingent of police, including top officers of the district, continued search operations in the area but no arrests have been made as yet.

Superintendent of Police, Purulia, Rajesh Yadav said the police are not sure if Maoists were involved in the case. “We are investigating every possibility,” said Yadav. Two kin of the victim who were injured during the attack were shifted from Balarampur primary health centre to the Purulia Sadar hospital in critical condition on Wednesday.

Members of the CPM district committee, meanwhile, claimed Majhi was killed by the Maoists. CPM district secretary Nakul Mahato said Majhi was threatened earlier by the Maoists and on Tuesday evening a gang of four armed Maoists had attacked him.
