Kolkata The state government is going to request the Election Commission to keep the projects under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) outside the purview of the model code of conduct that will come into effect once elections are declared.

“Like the way projects under NREGS are exempted from the purview of the model code of conduct, we are going to request the EC to do the same thing for the projects under JNNURM. Several projects are going on and in several cases work could not be started because either tenders could not be floated or work orders could not be issued. The interests of lakhs of people is involved and we believe that if the projects hit a roadblock because of election, development will be hampered,” Urban Development Minister Asok Bhattacharya said on Thursday.
