An alumnus of Punjab Public School, Nabha, Lieutenant T K Sapru, was commissioned into the Infantry (Fourth Gorkha Rifles) in 1969 and saw action on both the Western and Eastern front during the 1971 war.
He also served as the Assistant Military and Air Attaché in the Indian Embassy at Kathmandu.
His other assignments include acting as the general staff officer in the Directorate of Military Operations, colonel general staff in an active division in J and K and as deputy military secretary in the Military Secretary Branch.
He also commanded an infantry battalion in intense counter-insurgency operations, an infantry brigade in Punjab and another brigade in J and K during Operation Vijay in 1999.
Lieutenant General Amar Aul, Chief-of-Staff, Western Command, meanwhile, was posted as Additional Director General, Recruiting at New Delhi prior to his posting to HQ Western Command.
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Lieutenant Aul was commissioned into the Third Battalion the Third Gorkha Rifles in June, 1970. He has held various staff, instructional and command appointments in his career and was awarded the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal for distinguished service during the Kargil War and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2007.
