Chandigarh Ever since the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations were announced, the private school teachers have been in a state of confusion regarding the increased pay scales. The teachers of private schools are, at present, drawing salaries according to the Fifth Pay Commission.

While some of the private schools may revise salary grades depending on their ‘resources’, the Education department is yet to take a call on the issue.

The school authorities believe that teachers should be given their due. “Teachers form an integral part of the society and they are entitled to a rightful salary. Private as well as government schools should implement the guidelines of the Sixth Pay Commission,” said President of the Independent Schools Association D S Bedi.

He added that the Association, which has more than 30 private schools as its members, is considering the implementation of the new pay package.

“We held a contingency meeting recently where the teachers’ salary was the main issue. We are keen to bring into effect the Sixth Pay Commission and are

working on its details. Schools have decided that the salary will be increased as per the financial resources available with them,” said Bedi while refusing to set any time limit to implement the recommendations.

“Till March 31, 2009, teachers will draw their salaries as per the previous scale,” added Bedi.

In government schools, meanwhile, teachers still receive their salary as per the grades of the UT Administration.

While Finance Secretary Sanjay Kumar was not available for comments, Director Public Instructions (Schools), Samwartak Singh maintained that the department is in consultation with the Administration on issues such as revised scales and will execute any decision taken by it.

Exploitation of Teachers by private Schools all over India. by Acharya Harikrushna on 21 Sep 2009

Private teachers are being exploited by the private school authorities mercilessly but no political party and the leaders are interested in private teachers interest. Now days private schools are mushrooming as small and medium scale corporate houses, considering a profitable business they are charging highest fees and earning lot of money, but they do not want to pay teachers adequately. Teachers are harassed, they can not speak a single word regarding their rights. Teachers are hired and fired like laborers. Teachers are considered as common easily available people. Some prestigious schools in Ahmedabad which are running by powerful people they are hiring and firing teachers throughout the years. Such schools authorities giving adds for wanted teachers in TOI every day but nobody from the society is questioning such people that every day how the teachers are running away from that school. The condition of private teachers is worst than we thought. Private schools teachers are working like peons. Let me write they are sometimes do the work of peons, can not dare to speak a single word. Laws are only written in this country, and hardly any law in implemented, and government both central and state are reluctant in the issues which are not highlighted by the T.V. media and print media. And private teachers are never and never going to fight publicly for their rights if they do so they are sure to loose their jobs. Oh…..God Save teachers, teachers are in pathetic condition.Thanking you,Acharya HarikrushnaAhmedabad, Gujarat
