Mumbai In view of the elections, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) will issue a circular to all colleges and schools to speed up evaluation to ensure that election duties don’t hamper evaluation work.

The elections dates on April 23 and April 30 clash with the days examiners will be carrying on evaluation work. Teachers who have been appointed examiners will now have to submit corrected answer sheets before the usual deadline.

For each subject, examiners usually take 10 to 12 days to evaluate approximately 100 answer sheets. With the new rule, examiners may have to complete it within eight days.

The MSBSHSE, Mumbai chairman has also issued a circular asking teachers’ unions not to strike work during the evaluation period. A teachers’ union had threatened to strike work in protest against non-payment of dues in MVLU and Chinai colleges in Andheri and also for pay revision in accordance with the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations.

MSBSHSE Mumbai region secretary Basanti Roy said, “The board has nothing to do with the issue for which the teachers are intending to strike work. The teachers will be inconveniencing their students if they go on strike. That is why we have issued the circular urging the teachers not to strike work during this period.”

According to a Supreme Court ruling, all standard 12 exam results must be declared by June 10 so that students find enough time to get admissions to their preferred professional courses, and examiners will be informed of the Supreme Court ruling so that they finish their work in time, said Roy.

Exams rescheduled
Examination in some subjects conducted by the University of Mumbai will be postponed due to the elections. Forty exams in 600 subjects from April 21 tp April 24 and April 28 to April 30 will be rescheduled.

Subjects that are going to be postponed will be held after the exams for the other subjects. The new timetable will be given to colleges within two-three days, said Vilas Shinde, controller of examinations.
