When Valentine’s Day is round the corner, heart rates start going up for more than one reason. The first may be love, but the other, and possibly more potent, cause of pulse rates speeding, is that V-Day means a big spend. For most couple spending on romantic outings and gifts is mandatory. After all, the day does warrant a material show of love. So what is one to do if one wants to cut down on expenses, without cutting out the lavishness of the gift?
Enter steel and diamond unisex jewellery. This unique combo of the most expensive stone in the world and a metal which most associate only with kitchen utensils is offered by Diacouture as part of its D2X line. Nirav Mehta, CEO of Diacouture, says that the jewellery reflects the beauty of diamonds and the strength of steel. “Although steel has been popular for making jewellery in the west, India is still a virgin market. Here people need to think beyond gold, silver and platinum and that’s why we’ve introduced this new line.”
The look, he says, is modern and sophisticated.
Mehta says that the line was introduced last year, but it was targeted only at men. “Men can safely wear steel jewellery because it goes well with both casual and formal attire. It won’t look odd, unlike an all-gold cufflink, but it still retains the sophisticated look of that metal. The design is always simple and minimal.” The range makes little use of gold; it is used not as the base of the piece but to provide embellishment.
With the Valentine line, Mehta says they have introduced jewellery for both men and women. “There are pendants, rings, bracelets, dog tags— in short, something for everyone. And the use of surgical steel ensures that the pieces are sturdy enough for everyday wear.” And to make this combo of prosaic steel and sophisticated diamonds even more irresistible, the pricing is between Rs 2,500 and Rs 7,000.
